Pisum sativum var. macrocarpon
Sugar Bon is a juicy thick walled pea, ideal for eating
raw or with minimal cooking. The pod walls are very
juicy and sweet. Sugar Bon grows to 50 cm tall and
produces masses of 7-8cm long pods, each with
7-8 sweet peas. It is an early nproducer with edible peas
at 59 days. Sugar Bon is resistant to both common wilt
and Powdery Mildew. Peas should be planted in
soil with high organic levels where possible but they do
not need high levels of Nitrogen which they can get
from the air and fix in root nodules. Plant from
Jan-Nov in Cold areas, from Feb-Sept in Temperate
areas and from Mar-July in Subtropical and Tropical
areas. Plant the seed 2-4cm deep, quite thickly, in
rows 35-75cm apart and provide strong support for
this heavy producing variety. Pick when small for
the best tasting peas and in order to promote yield.
